Shenzhen to Adjust Minimum Wage to CNY 800 to CNY 850

SHENZHEN, Apr 20, 2006 (SinoCast via COMTEX) -- On April 17, the labor and Social Security Bureau of Shenzhen held hearings on the minimum wage level of the city. At present, two proposals -- one fixed the bottom at CNY 800 per month and the other fixed at CNY 850 -- are in discussion.

China's first special economic zone is in Shenzhen, while the policies in or outside the zone are different. In 2005, the bottom wage in the special economic zone was CNY 690 per month (USD 1 = CNY 8.01) while the outside standard was CNY 580.
