I spent some time last week with my brother Paul, who was one of my closest
companions for the first half of my life. Later, my brother and I shared an
apartment together in New York City, and twice held jobs at the same place
at the same time.

After college, once we got into serious relationships and married, Paul and
I did not see each other as often. We saw each other at family gatherings
and community events, but we lived in different places, hung out with
different groups and pursued different interests.
