'And The Walls Came Tumbling Down'

The morning of February 22, 2006 benchmarked a significant time in the
history of Atlanta's famed Auburn Avenue. For on this day, one of the icons
of this once flourishing historically Black business section of Atlanta,
came tumbling to the ground.

The famous Palamont Motor Lodge, the hotel that housed many famous Black
entertainers as they came to perform in Atlanta, met with the wrecking ball
(actually a huge tractor with a crusher bucket attached). A crowd of about
seventy five people gathered as the demolition got underway, and Auburn
Avenue was temporarily closed at the corner of Piedmont Avenue.
