Republican star arrested for fraud

A former top adviser to President Bush was arrested March 9 for retail
fraud in Montgomery County. Allen was released on his personal recognizance
and a trial date is set for April 27.

According to police reports, Claude Allen, over several visits, purchased
$5,000 worth of goods from Target and Hecht's stores, stowing the items in
his car. He then returned to the stores with his receipts, took identical
items off store shelves and demanded refunds.

If convicted, Allen, formerly one of the top Blacks in the Bush
administration and a favorite of the Republican Right, faces up to 15 years
in prison.
