Those of us still hanging in there from the '60s remember when Chevrolet's
Malibu first hit the scene in 1964. White guys with long hair would race
through the wide streets of our Black neighborhoods, screeching those
Malibu wheels. Most young Black men could not afford one.

By 1969, the Malibu, at least the used ones, was owned by us. They were
fast, dependable, spacious, shiny and slick.

For almost two decades, the Malibu held the top sales position at
Chevrolet. Just like other American-made vehicles whose names have stood
the test of the time, the body changed so much until you could hardly
