With her body besieged by fibroid tumors after a devastating miscarriage
nearly eight years ago, Angelique Shofar fled her home in Maryland and went
to Massachusetts for a nine-day yoga retreat for women. She conceived her
"yoga baby" immediately after returning. She has since devoted her life to
teaching the ancient practice to people of color through nine-week sessions
that transform participants by increasing flexibility, toning muscles,
oxygenating bodies with deep breathing, and holistically healing common
ailments.
