African Americans have such rich stories to tell about our past and
present, but all too often, as people of an oral tradition, our stories,
and consequently, our history is lost. Travel to any city, especially in
the South, and it is so easy to merely bump into countless historic
landmarks documenting the history of white America. There are even trees,
yes, trees that have been preserved to attest to some historic event that
visitors must see and are told that they should remember forever.
