Peru Negro brings Afro-Latin culture to Southern Theatre

The internationally acclaimed dance ensemble Peru Negro will bring their
infections rhythms to the Southern Theatre, 21 E. Main St., on Friday,
March 3, at 8 p.m. as part of CAPA's Caliente Series.

Peru Negro was formed more than 30 years ago to preserve Peru's African
heritage. This group of 22 singers, dancers and musicians performs all over
the world and has been appointed as "Cultural Ambassadors of Black Peru" by
the Peruvian government. Through their work, the members of this
Afro-Peruvian music and dance company recreate the folklore history of
their ancestors; slavery brought to Peru by Spanish colonizers in the
1500s.
