The Detroit News published its official position regarding the Palestinian
elections through a column written by its editor Nolan Finley on February
5, 2006. The column received a lot of attention from the Arab American
community as it bashed Palestinians and said that terrorism is an
"inseparable part of the Palestinian identity."

Many organizations moved to demand an apology from the Detroit News and
community members sent letters in protestation. But the Detroit News
insisted on its views and made further intractable justifications for its
position. I wrote them a letter the day the column appeared. It said:

"Dear Editor,
