Nuclear deal bill tabled in House, Senate

But passage may be several months away as lawmakers study details of
agreement

Senator Richard Lugar, Indiana Republican, and Representative Henry Hyde,
Illinois Republican, at the request of President George W Bush introduced
identical bills in the Senate and House on March 16.

The bills were based on a Bush Administration draft proposal submitted to
Congress March 9 and reported exclusively in India Abroad (March 17)
seeking a waiver to the Atomic Energy Act to envisage the implementation of
the United States-India civilian nuclear agreement.

Lugar and Hyde are chairs of the Senate Foreign Relations and House
International Relations Committees, respectively.
