Waving signs that read, "We Are America," well over a thousand enthusiastic
immigrants and their families, labor union members, and immigrant advocacy
activists packed Union Local 32BJ's large auditorium. The occasion was the
New York City Town Hall and Rally for Immigration Reform, aimed at building
momentum for a comprehensive and humane approach to reforming this nation's
broken immigration system.
The featured speaker was Republican Senator John McCain who is calling for
an overhaul of the nation's immigration system and garnering support for
the bipartisan Secure America and Orderly Immigration Act of 2005, which he
