When Melvin Yearby played baseball for Castlemont High School, he was a
super star, making the All-City team in 1970.
Then he played at Cal State Hayward, (now Cal State East Bay) from 1971 to
1974 and he set a host of records. Many of his baseball records stood for
30 years.
He still holds some records at the university.
Now, at age 54, he is finally being inducted into the Cal State Athletics
Hall of Fame.
"It took awhile because I never graduated, but I plan on going back to get
my degree in physical education," Yearby told The Post. He will be honored
at an induction ceremony and dinner slated for May 19 at 6 p.m. at the
Marriott Hotel in Fremont.
