Signers of Texas Declaration of Independence set an example for future Texans

When 59 men signed the Texas Declaration of Independence on March 2, 1836,
they forged a new republic that eventually transformed itself into our
great state of Texas.

As a fourth generation Texan and a state senator, I urge you to carry on
the tradition of those courageous men and actively participate in state and
local government.

Dwight D. Eisenhower, a native Texan, said, "Politics ought to be the
part-time profession of every citizen." I would add that Texas politics
should be the part-time profession of every Texan.
