Murphy, the 11-year-old pet of Gov. John Baldacci and his family and the state's "first dog," died at the governor's mansion Wednesday morning after a battle with cancer. Named after the title character in the "Murphy Brown" TV series, the springer spaniel held such a prominent place in the Baldacci family that she had her own page on the governor's Web site.
