Fed: Australian Defence Association defends training of rebels

The Australian Defence Association has defended the practice of training soldiers from
friendly regional forces despite the risk that Australian soldiers could later face them
as enemies.

The Australian Financial Review says East Timorese rebel leader ALFREDO REINADO was
trained by the Australian military.

The paper says he did last year a three-month naval training stint at the Australian
Joint Command and Staff College in Canberra.
