A resurgence in the restaurant industry is aiding the recovery from Hurricane Katrina, giving residents more options to indulge their love of dining while contributing mightily to the economy.
Slightly more than 40 percent of the 3,414 restaurants in New Orleans and its suburbs have reopened since the Aug. 29 storm, the state's restaurant association says. About 80 new eating establishments have also opened in the city, running the gamut from mobile diners that service job sites to higher-end places.
