THE year 2005 was a landmark year in global development finance with net private capital flows to developing countries reaching a record high of US$491 billion (RM1.8 trillion).

Capital flows between developing countries or South-South flows are growing more rapidly than those between the developed and developing countries or the North-South flows. And according to the World Bank this is particularly evident in foreign direct investments.
