Article: Chavez suggest Venezuela may acquire Russian fighter jets

President Hugo Chavez hinted Sunday that Venezuela's military may shortly have new Russian fighter jets among its fleet.

Chavez has been looking to buy Russian Sukhoi Su-30 and Su-35 fighter jets to replace a fleet of F-16s, which Venezuela has had trouble maintaining because the U.S. refuses to sell parts for upgrades.

"I'm going tell you something in advance _ it's very probable ... that on July 5 Sukhoi 30 planes will be crossing the skies of Caracas," he said on his weekly TV and radio address.

The U.S. recently announced an arms embargo against Venezuela, accusing it of failing to cooperate in counterterrorism efforts.
