WA: Illegal fishing has reached "crisis point": Labor taskforce

PERTH, June 7 AAP - Illegal fishing in Australian waters is a serious threat to the
nation's fish stocks, ecosystems and quarantine status, a federal Labor task force has
found.
The task force's report, entitled Illegal Fishing: A National Disgrace, says 13,018
illegal vessels were reported entering Australian waters last year, but only 280 were
apprehended.
Australia's fish stocks were being pillaged with impunity by the illegal vessels, mostly
Indonesian, while the federal government ignored the issue, the report said.
