(Daily Texan) (U-WIRE) AUSTIN, Texas -- The highly popular "Project Runway" has given talented designers a venue to demonstrate their prowess and accelerate their careers. Winners Jay McCaroll and Chloe Dao are now well-known in fashion circles. Other contestants are selling their pieces online or in boutiques.
The show itself has been honored with two Emmy nominations for Outstanding Reality Competition. Around the nation, thousands of aspiring designers in programs such as the University of Texas' textiles and apparel program strive to get their voices heard in the brutal fashion industry, and many see "Project Runway" as a way to make that possible.
