Steven Theede, the chief executive of Yukos, has resigned, ending a two-year battle with the Russian government to save the company that Mikhail Khodorkovsky, now in prison, had built into Russia's biggest oil exporter.Theede said Wednesday that he had decided to quit after being informed that the court-appointed bankruptcy manager, Eduard Rebgun, would recommend liquidating Yukos, according to his resignation letter, a copy of which was e-mailed Thursday by Yukos.Yukos's fight to survive began when President Vladimir Putin's government jailed Khodorkovsky in 2003, derailing plans to sell a stake in the company to Exxon Mobil.
