Crik: England says no to non-neutral umpires in Ashes

SYDNEY, Aug 28 AAP - England has rebuffed an Australian proposal that the best umpires
in the world stand in this summer's Ashes series, regardless of nationality.

Although no formal approach was made, Test captain Ricky Ponting and other Australian
cricket officials believe the Ashes showdown should be controlled by the top umpires on
the ICC's elite panel, even if they are Australian or English.

Under ICC guidelines, Test matches must be controlled by neutral umpires.
