VIC: Vic Libs vow free public transport for students

MELBOURNE, Oct 22 AAP - Public transport will be free for almost all students in Victoria
under a $285 million election pledge unveiled today by the Liberals ahead of next month's
state election.
Announcing the policy today, Victorian Opposition Leader Ted Baillieu said the free
student public transport would include country trains and regional bus services.
But the state government has called the pledge dishonest, saying it would plunge the
budget into deficit.
Mr Baillieu said the policy would encourage more people to use public transport.
