U.S. Sen. Olympia Snowe cruised to a third term Tuesday after defeating two opponents in a race that focused on her allegiance to the Republican Party.
Snowe had 74 percent of the statewide vote, with 29 percent of precincts reporting. Democrat Jean Hay Bright of Dixmont got 21 percent, and independent Bill Slavick of Portland got 5 percent.
