NSW: "Two strikes" policy cuts hospital waiting list: minister

SYDNEY, Dec 17 AAP - A "two strikes and you're out" policy has cut the number of patients
on NSW's "not ready for care" hospital waiting list by almost a third, the state government
says.

The radical policy was introduced this year to target the list of patients waiting
for elective surgery for more than 12 months and who have opted to delay treatment.

People who twice delay surgery without an adequate reason are removed from the list
to free up space for others.

The policy has resulted in a 31 per cent reduction of the list since July - from 1,788
