NSW: Fire crews hope bushfire will pass Thredbo before weekend

SYDNEY, Jan 18 AAP - Fire crews hope a bushfire will pass through the southern NSW
town of Thredbo before predicted extreme weather conditions make the blaze even more difficult
to manage.

The fire which started in Victoria, swept over the border near the NSW resort town
of Thredbo yesterday, forcing the evacuation of more than 700 tourists.

The firefront remains about 12km from the town, with overnight rain lowering fire activity,
Rural Fire Service (RFS) spokeswoman Rebel Talbert said.

The wet conditions, lower temperatures and light winds meant the threat to Thredbo
