Grocery stores were giving jars of Peter Pan Peanut Butter the hook on Thursday after the lunchroom staple was linked to a salmonella outbreak that has sickened nearly 300 people, including possibly five in New Jersey.

State health officials were still examining the "food histories" of the five people to determine whether the peanut butter was responsible for their illnesses.
