`30 years jail now for culpable homicide'

PUTRAJAYA: The maximum sentence for culpable homicide has been increased from 20 to 30 years.

This is effective from March 6, the Court of Appeal was told yesterday.
Deputy public prosecutor K. Mangai, appealing against the 10- year jail term imposed on rubber tapper M. Mohan by the Muar High Court in 2005 for murdering his lover, M. Janaky, 43, said the amendment to the Penal Code was done in 2003 and came into force this month.
