(Michigan Daily) (U-WIRE) ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- On the heels of the 1996 Hopwood v. Texas case, which banned affirmative action in Texas, Texas Exes, a private organization for former University of Texas students, began offering more scholarships to underrepresented minority students.
Faced with the effects of Proposal 2, which banned affirmative action in Michigan, the University of Michigan's Alumni Association is looking for ways to prevent a drop-off in minority enrollment.
One way being considered is following the Texas Exes model and using the Alumni Association to offer more scholarships to minority students, University officials said.
