UNITED NATIONS, Apr. 17, 2007 (IPS/GIN) -- The U.N. Security
Council went ahead with its meeting on climate change Tuesday,
despite a letter of protest from leaders of developing countries.
The 130-member Group of 77 developing countries sent its letter
to the Security Council Monday, asserting that climate change is
an issue that falls under the jurisdiction of the U.N. General
Assembly and the Economic and Social Council, not the exclusive
Security Council. However, the council held its open debate on
"Energy, Security and Climate" anyway.
