Fed: Runway extension predicted to fuel Gold Coast tourism

GOLD COAST, May 16 AAP - A longer runway at the Gold Coast Airport is expected to bring
direct flights from Asia, the Middle East and the United States and boost freight services.
Deputy Prime Minister Mark Vaile today opened the extension, saying the upgrade would
help meet the needs of growing passenger numbers, sparked by tourism, business and industry.
The $25 million redevelopment includes a 458 metre runway extension and an upgrade
to the taxiway.
The 2,500 metre runway will enable direct flights to the Gold Coast from China, the
Middle East, India, Japan, ...
