Fed: MPs defend 6.7 per cent pay rise

Federal MPs have defended their 6.7 per cent pay rise .. with one Liberal saying it's
necessary .. to attract the best brains in the country to political careers.

Federal politicians are set to accept about 150 dollars a week extra for the average backbencher.

Queensland Liberal MP DAVID JULL says the high pay's needed to attract the best brains
.. which is shown by the good state Australia's in at the moment.

And Mr JULL says most people would be surprised at the long hard hours politicians work.
