Soc: Thaksin bids for Manchester City

LONDON, June 21 AFP - Thailand's ousted prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra launched
a formal takeover bid worth STG81.6 million ($A193.3 million) for English Premiership
football club Manchester City today, his takeover company said.

The offer came as Thai prosecutors in Bangkok laid formal criminal corruption charges
against Thaksin in the first case to reach court since a coup last September removed him
from power.

The bid by Thaksin's UK Sports Investments company was accepted by the management of
Manchester City, which finished a disappointing 14th place last season in the Premiership.
