Fed: Safety net dumping will cost families $258m a year: Abbott

CANBERRA, Aug 28 AAP - More than 1.5 million Australians would pay higher out-of-pocket
medical expenses if a Labor government scrapped the Medicare safety net, the government
has warned.

Labor is refusing to say whether it will keep the safety net if it wins the upcoming
federal election.

"The Medicare safety net is one of several policies under consideration, and we will
announce our policy in due course," health spokeswoman Nicola Roxon's office said today.
