PUTRAJAYA: It may come as a surprise to many that the main duty of the prosecution is not to obtain a conviction at all costs.

Rather, it is to "ensure a fair and transparent trial", which includes ensuring that "the accused's rights are not only observed, but also protected".
This is probably why it is said that the prosecution will only charge a person when it is 90 per cent sure of a conviction.
