Article: Discount birth control soon to be unavailable to U. Mississippi students

(Daily Mississippian) (U-WIRE) OXFORD, Miss. -- Students on the University of Mississippi campus who now pay only $15 for a pack of birth control pills will pay as much as $50 for the same pack after December.

The Deficit Reduction Act of 2005, a federal law that took effect in January 2007, made it more costly for pharmaceutical companies to offer colleges and universities discounts on birth control, which many did before. Because many campuses, including Ole Miss, ordered large quantities of the discount birth control when they heard the legislation passed, they still have a supply - but only until around December.
