(The Daily Aztec) (U-WIRE) SAN DIEGO -- Three families, seven children, four dogs and one hamster camped out in the Qualcomm Stadium parking lot Monday following a mandatory evacuation notice in the face of fires burning across San Diego county.

Caroline Joseph, a 4-S Ranch resident said she was up all night watching the fires and waiting for any news.

"Around 6:30, it was just pitch black," Joseph said. "You couldn't see anything. That was when I knew - we better start packing."
