Vic: Jails terms doubled for causing serious injury

MELBOURNE, Oct 26 AAP - Jail terms for drivers who are found guilty of negligently
causing serious injury to another person in a road accident will be doubled from five
to 10 years, says the Victorian government.

The decision to increase the maximum sentence follows a recommendation from the Sentencing
Advisory Council.

In its report, the council said the maximum penalty of five years in jail for negligently
causing serious injury in a road accident did not adequately reflect the seriousness of
the crime.
