Fed: Rural health services in tatters

CANBERRA, Oct 28 AAP - Rural health services are in tatters across Australia and require
urgent government support, a medical body says.

Rural Doctors Association of Australia president Peter Rischbieth said country communities
would continue to deteriorate unless the federal and state governments encouraged more
health workers to move to the bush.

He said rural areas needed an extra 13,000 health professionals, including 1,000 extra doctors.

The call for action coincides with National Rural Health Action Week, which starts today.
