Base: Chunichi take Japan Series over Hillman's Fighters
TOKYO, Nov 1 AFP - The Chunichi Dragons won the Japan Series baseball title for the
first time in 53 years tonight, downing defending champions Nippon Ham Fighters whose
coach Trey Hillman is heading to the Kansas City Royals.
It was the final game in Japan for Hillman, who took over the Fighters in 2003 and
rebuilt the team to win two Pacific League pennants.
The Nippon Ham Fighters, based in the northern city of Sapporo, won the first game
of the best-of-seven series against Central League champs Chunichi only to surrender the
following four.
