(The Daily Vidette) (U-WIRE) NORMAL, Ill. -- Though sleeping pills are becoming wildly popular, several studies and experts indicate that they have only mild effects.

There are countless sleep medications available via prescription or over the counter, but Dr. Wallace Mendelson, sleep disorder expert formerly with the University of Chicago, feels that consumers are being lulled into a false sense of security.

"People seem to be getting a lot of relief from sleeping pills, but I don't know how much getting 25 extra minutes of sleep really affects that," Mendelson said.
