(Washington Square News) (U-WIRE) NEW YORK -- Right on the heels of "In the Valley of Elah," "Rendition" and "Lions for Lambs," Brian De Palma's new Iraq war drama "Redacted" attempts to bring an auteur's eye to the long-running conflict. But where those other films masked their social consciences with Hollywood gloss, "Redacted" emphasizes the filmmaking over the subject matter. De Palma presents a variety of visual styles, like handheld digital video and faux news recordings, as though the film is confused about what it really wants to be.
