NEW YORK, Nov. 27, 2007 (IPS/GIN) -- One of the world's most
promising large-scale HIV vaccine trials was shut down in September
after it became clear that the drug was failing to block the virus.
It was a profoundly disappointing moment in the decades-long
quest for a vaccine, especially when researchers learned that the
vaccine may have even increased the vulnerability of some test
volunteers to contracting HIV.
