Fed: Experts play down fears of gruesome side effects

CANBERRA, Dec 18 AAP - Health groups are urging patients to keep taking medication
to treat osteoporosis despite reports of a gruesome side effect.
Patients have been throwing out their bisphosphonates pills following media reports
a week ago that could cause their jaw bones to crumble away.
But Osteoporosis Australia and the Australian and New Zealand Bone and Mineral Society
today said the side-effect was rare in osteoporosis patients.
People who stopped treatment could be increasing their risk of dying, they said.
