NSW: NRMA welcomes NSW's lower road toll

SYDNEY, Jan 1 AAP - The NRMA has welcomed the continuing decline in NSW's annual road
toll, but the motoring group also says it is time to embrace a bold new target.

The preliminary road toll figure for 2007 stands at 445 deaths, down 10 per cent or
50 deaths from the 495 fatalities recorded on the state's roads in 2006.

NRMA president Alan Evans today said it was a good result, but what was also needed
was a shift away from a mindset that accepted hundreds of road deaths every year.
