NSW: Lunch box, hot day equals potential food poisoning: govt

SYDNEY, Jan 25 AAP - School lunch boxes are a potential health hazard in summer, authorities
have warned.

They say in hot weather it takes less than an hour for harmful bacteria to multiply
alarmingly in lunch box sandwiches containing cooked meats.

NSW Primary Industries Minister Ian Macdonald today issued the warning as thousands
of students neared the end of their holidays.

"The first school term starts in the hottest part of the year, so the golden rule is
to keep school lunches cold for as long as possible before eating," Mr Macdonald said
