(Daily Collegian) (UWIRE) UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- Solo and side projects are nothing new. More often than not, though, these new things suck. I'm all for exploration, but it's the truth. It's hard enough to be successful with one band; very few have it in them to do it twice.

Ben Gibbard is one of those people.

As the frontman for Death Cab for Cutie, he became about as big a name as an indie musician can be, and his work with the Postal Service and on his own has been immaculate as well.

With the release of Field Manual, it's now Death Cab guitarist Chris Walla's turn, and though he's not quite as spectacular as his bandmate, he has his own charm.
