NSW: Anti-smoking ads effective for teen audience: survey

SYDNEY, Feb 8 AAP - A confronting television advertising campaign showing a gangrenous
foot requiring amputation has successfully turned teenagers off smoking, a new survey
shows.

More than 400 NSW teenagers were shown the series of graphic commercials with their
reactions monitored by NSW Cancer Institute researchers.

Almost 80 per cent of respondents said the anti-smoking campaign made them less likely
to smoke, while some 90 per cent agreed that an occasional cigarette could do harm.
