U.S. Government Accountability Office Committee on House Transportation
and Infrastructure Subcommittee on Aviation February 13, 2008 Mr. Chairman
and Members of the Subcommittee: Thank you for the opportunity to testify
today on runway safety. While aviation accidents in the United States are
relatively infrequent, recent incidents have heightened concerns about
safety on airport runways. On August 16, 2007, for example, at Los Angeles
