(The California Aggie) (UWIRE) DAVIS, Calif. -- UC Davis was without power for three hours Thursday night, delaying a women's basketball game, stranding passengers in three elevators and canceling classes. In addition, reports of a gas leak resulted in the evacuation of the Memorial Union.

The power shut off at 6:06 p.m. when a crane on a barge collided with transmission lines in the Deep Water Channel, said PG&E spokesperson J.D. Guidi in a telephone interview Sunday evening.

Over 8,500 homes and businesses in the Sacramento area lost power, including the main UC Davis campus. But PG&E restored power to all but 640 customers by 1 a.m. ...
